Bake Sale Event Guide
There’s nothing like the delicious smell of cookies floating in the air! If you want to raise some funds — to go to supplies for your next event, building a baby closet for the local pregnancy center, or even a trip to the SFLA National Pro-Life Summit — a bake sale is a great option! Use this event guide to plan and optimize your next bake sale fundraiser.
Step 1:
Plan the bake sale.
- Choose a location, date, and time to hold the sale.Â
- If you’re interested in keeping this on campus, ask for permission from your group adviser or administration to reserve a space and table to host the bake sale. Complete any necessary paperwork for approval.Â
- If you need to take the sale off campus, ask a local church if you can host the bake sale after Sunday services. You may need to ask to borrow a folding table if you don’t have one. Â
- Decide who is working the bake sale (making the transactions) or create a shift schedule. Always have two people present!
- Let all members know when and where to drop off their delicious treats.Â
Step 2:
Advertise.
- Hang flyers a week in advance so every student knows the sale is happening.Â
- If you’re hosting the bake sale at a church, ask to advertise in the weekly bulletin or during announcements.
- Create an event page on social media and invite all your friends, church members, and community.
Step 3:
Bake those goodies!
- The best time to make the treats is the day before the sale. This ensures that you won’t be stressed the day of and that your treats won’t go stale.
- Ask each group member to bake an item for the sale. It’s okay to use store-bought mixes!
Step 4:
Make your sign.
- Ask the most artistic group member(s) to create a sign with agreed upon prices.Â
- If you're raising funds for a certain event, provide all the information for those who would like to learn more.
Step 5:
Create an envelope to store your money.
- Start with $20 in one-dollar bills so you will have change if people need it.
- Make sure you write down the amount you started with so you’ll know exactly how much money you made.
Step 6:
Host the bake sale.
- Smile and be ready to explain to customers what each item is, how much it costs, and why you are hosting the sale.
- Designate one person to hand treats out and another to take money if that rhythm feels right for your influx of hungry customers.Â
Step 7:
Store the money you make from the sale.
- The bake sale is done, but where do you keep the money? Contact your Regional Coordinator to determine the best way to store your funds until they are needed. This is a good job for your group’s Treasurer.
