Social Media Fundraiser Event Guide

Whether it’s trips, printing flyers, making group t-shirts — you name it — operating a growing student group requires money to fund materials and events. There are plenty of ways you can use your social media skills to fundraise. Don’t worry; you aren’t begging people for money. You are giving them the opportunity to work alongside you to fight the greatest human rights atrocity our world has ever known: abortion. Use this event guide to help you plan your next social media fundraiser!

Step 1:

Create a fundraising goal.

  • Write out all the expenses of the events/items that you need and make realistic estimations. How much will what you're raising money for cost? This number is your fundraising goal.
Step 2:

Brainstorm a fundraising plan.

  •  Meet with your group to brainstorm platforms you can use to raise funds.
Step 3:

Post! Post! Post!

  • Use your group’s social media platforms (and your own) to share about your group’s fundraising efforts. Post the link to your fundraiser on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and any other social media platforms that you choose.
  • Share with like-minded local Facebook groups and ministries.
  • Be specific. People want to know where their money is going. Share why you are fundraising (i.e. to raise funds to go the National Pro-Life March).
Step 4:

Make personal invitations to donate.

  • Privately message friends and family. Personally asking someone is usually the most successful!
  • Remember to tell them what the money will be used for and give them a way to donate: “Aunt Sue, would you be willing to sponsor a SFLA member’s bus ride to the National Pro-Life March for $50? You can give using our Go Fund Me webpage here.”
Step 5:

Don't forget to thank your donors!

  • Whenever people donate, collect their contact information so you can thank them and update them on upcoming events.
  • You can message, email, call, or send a letter.
